Buying pajamas online has one failure mode above all others: the size gamble. Here's how to think about sleepwear sizing so your first order fits — and why pajama sizing works differently from the clothes you wear all day.

Pajamas Run Relaxed — On Purpose

Sleepwear is cut with 3–6 inches of ease at the chest and hip, because you sleep in it: you reach, stretch, curl, and roll. A pajama top that fits like a fitted t-shirt will bind at 2 a.m. So if a set says "relaxed fit," that's not vanity sizing — it's the design. Don't size down to compensate unless the product page says the fit runs large.

Read the Chart, Not the Letter

A "Medium" is not the same across brands, and it's definitely not the same across countries. The reliable move is measurements: chest, waist, and hip, compared against the product's size chart. For pajamas, chest is the critical one — shoulders and sleeves follow. If you're between sizes on the chest, size up; sleepwear forgives looseness, never tightness.

The Height Question

Torso and inseam matter more in sleepwear than people expect. If you're 6'0" and buy a standard-length pant, you'll get the cropped look whether you asked for it or not. Most of our sets come in full length designed for average heights (roughly 5'4"–5'10"); outside that range, check the inseam listed on the page or email us — we'll tell you exactly how the length runs.

Two-Piece Sets: Mixing Sizes

Bodies aren't symmetric, and neither are sizing needs. If your top size and bottom size differ, that's normal — but most sets sell as a single unit. Practical options: choose by the measurement that matters most (top-heavy buyers should size by chest; the reverse for bottoms), or pick a set with a drawstring waist, which absorbs an inch or two of difference at the waist without affecting the top.

Shrinkage: What to Expect

  • Pre-shrunk cotton (ours): minimal — expect under 3% after the first wash, already accounted for in the cut.
  • Flannel: similar if pre-shrunk; cheaper flannel can shrink a full size, which is why we pre-shrink ours.
  • Modal: highly resistant — shape retention is one of its selling points.
  • Silk and satin: no meaningful shrinkage in cold-water care. Shrinkage happens with heat, which the care label already bans.

The Pre-Order Checklist

Before you order: measure your chest (around the fullest part, tape level), check the size chart on the product page, confirm the inseam matches your height preference, and read the fit note — "relaxed," "true to size," or "size up." Five minutes, and the return rate on sleepwear drops to almost zero.

How Our Fits Are Cut

Specifics help, so here's ours: our sets are cut relaxed through the chest and hip with a slight taper at the wrist and ankle, so you get the drape without the sail effect. Tops run true to the chart with room to layer a tee underneath in winter. Pants sit at the natural waist with a covered elastic band and, on most sets, a drawstring to fine-tune. If you've bought from us before: the fits haven't changed, reorder with confidence.

The Return-Safety Net

Even good charts miss sometimes — bodies vary more than sizes do. That's why the 30-day return window exists, and why we keep the process painless: unworn, tags on, full refund, no restocking fee. Practical tip: when your order arrives, try the set on over clean sleepwear before washing anything. A washed set can't be returned, but an unwashed try-on costs you two minutes and settles the size question with certainty instead of speculation.

Sizing for Gifts, Revisited

Gifting sleepwear without asking is a solved problem with one reconnaissance step: check the recipient's closet for their favorite loungewear label and size. Sleepwear sizing is more forgiving than fitted clothing — a relaxed-fit set in their usual size works for virtually everyone. When you genuinely can't check, our size guide's height-and-build mapping is accurate for most builds, and exchanges are free and fast. A gift that fits says one thing; a gift that fits and can be swapped painlessly says you planned it well.

International Size Conversions, Demystified

If you're replacing sleepwear bought abroad, the letter conversions trip people up: US Medium is roughly UK 12, EU 40, and AU 14 — but cuts differ as much as numbers, so treat conversions as a starting point and verify against the actual chart. Japanese sizing runs smaller through the chest than US equivalents; Australian sizing runs closer to UK than US. The measurement-first approach sidesteps all of it: a 38-inch chest is a 38-inch chest in any country, and the chart is where that number meets the garment.

Weight Changes and Sleepwear

Bodies change, and sleepwear is often the first place you notice — because pajamas get worn at the day's most sensitive moments. Two practical notes: relaxed-fit sleepwear accommodates modest fluctuations gracefully (this is a feature, not an accident), and the pieces that stop working tell you which direction to size when you reorder. Our sets are cut with enough ease that most customers wear the same size across small weight changes; the drawstring waists absorb the rest. Buy for the body you have today — sleepwear is the wrong category for aspirational sizing.

And if you're still torn between two sizes: email us your measurements and height. A human answers, usually within the hour, and we'd rather send the right size the first time than process a return.
